When one of their own dies of cancer, Chris and Annie, want to donate a new sofa for the hospital waiting room, in memory. They decide to raise the money for the sofa by creating a calendar, an “alternative” calendar, featuring themselves and some friends from their Women’s Institute group. When word about the calendar and the reason for it gets out, the world comes to their little village in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a hit, but friendships are put to the test of fame.
